WORKING AS A MODEL
Types of work offered
So what does it mean to work for an Agency, like Models 1 Agency?
Models are self-employed
This means they can canvas for their own work or accept work offered to them by their Agency
Whilst canvassing for their own work can be more lucrative (as explained later on) there are hidden costs and planning, that an Agency assignment will not require
A Main Board Model, like Kika, will be offered either Editorial, Cover or Branded assignments
Editorial -
These are typically a small number of photos which will be included in a magazine edition (hence, the term Editorial)
Such assignments typically have a very short photo shoot time (for that specific Model)
As a result they pay basic rate, and some do not even pay at all
However, Models use these to build up their profile, in the hope of that one big
Branded assignment
They are also often used by the team that created the Editorial
to promote their own services (usually the Photographer, Makeup, Hair and Stylist)
Sadly quite often the Model is not credited in the Editorial, as they are being paid
rather than promoting their services
Cover -
These are similar to Editorial, but the photo is placed on the Cover of the magazine
As a result the rate paid is higher
Equally, it may include other photos for an article to be included within that magazines edition or a later edition
If that is the case then both rates may apply
Branded -
If a Model is offered a Branded assignment, they have usually hit the Jackpot!
Such assignments usually have a longer photo shoot than an Editorial
However, a basic photo shoot can be for just a handful of photos (and this gives an indication of the value of the brand)
In comparison a budget brand would rather have lots of photos, this can make it a long day (or even days) for the Model
